Is your tooth’s damage past the repair of filling, crown, or any other treatment? Your dentist may recommend a tooth extraction to repair your smile. Here at Enfield Family Dental, we strive to provide the best care with up-to-date technology for your comfortability and care.

When extracting a tooth, your dentist will use an X-ray to decide which approach is best. A full medical and dental history analysis will be considered as well. Two types of extractions include a simple extraction or a surgical extraction. A simple extraction procedure is where you can see the tooth, and it is typically removed with a forceps tool. It is first loosened with an elevator.

A surgical extraction is a little more complex. If the tooth has been broken or damaged, especially at the gum line, or hasn’t emerged from the gums, this is when a surgical extraction is needed. A small incision is made in the gums and removed with a forceps tool. Sometimes the bone around the tooth needs to be removed or the tooth needs to be cut in half to extract it.

Some of the reasons you may need a tooth extracted include:

– Extra teeth blocking other teeth from growing in.
– Baby teeth not coming out in time.
– When you are getting braces, a tooth may be removed to make room.
– An infection in the tooth that is irreparable.
– A broken or damaged tooth.
